Welcome to Elementary Computer!
My name is Daniel Ashworth and I am teaching K-6 computer this year here at SBA. I'm so excited about the opportunity to work with your children! My philosophy concerning education is simple: It should be fun but it should be effective. The skills we will cover in class this year will help equip your child for the computer/technology-driven society they are growing up in today. We'll work on those ever-important keyboarding skills as well as learn all about the great things the computer has to offer. Below you'll find an overview of the curriculum based on your child's age.
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
We will be focusing on:
- The parts of a computer
- Care and basic operation of a computer
- Programs like Microsoft Paint, which help with mouse skills
- Online or software-based age-appropriate games which help reinforce subjects being studied in their other classes.
- Type To Learn Jr. keyboarding software
** On the rare occasion, we will be online, but only when neccesary and only under my or another adult's supervision.
3rd Grade - 5th Grade
We will be focusing on:
- An overview of the parts of a computer
- An overview of care and basic operation of a computer
- Type to Learn 3 keyboarding software
- Intermediate skills using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Appropriate internet navigation skills and the use of the internet for research
- Basic skills involving devices such as digital cameras, scanners, USB flash drives, and other external devices
